Your Gateway to Ancient Olympia
Katakolo—also commonly called Katakolon—is a small seaside port on Greece's western coast and the gateway to Ancient Olympia, birthplace of the Olympic Games.
This port day offers an appealing combination of ancient history and relaxed coastal atmosphere. You can spend the morning among temples and archaeological treasures, then return to Katakolo for Greek food, waterfront shopping, or a little beach time before heading back aboard Norwegian Gem.
Starting the Day
The Ship Docks Right in Katakolo
The original newsletter described Norwegian Gem docking beside Katakolo's small port. Taxis, tours, and other transportation options are typically available near the pier.
Ancient Olympia is approximately 30–35 minutes inland according to the original guide, making an early departure a good way to begin your port day.

Getting Back to the Ship
Katakolo Makes the Final Walk Easy
The original newsletter described Katakolo as a very compact port, with most of the waterfront area only a short walk from the ship.
The bigger timing consideration is the drive back from Ancient Olympia. Allow extra time for traffic and other transportation delays when returning from inland sightseeing.
