Is the Upgrade Worth It?

It Depends on How You Like to Cruise

The original Greece 2027 newsletter introduced Free at Sea Plus as an optional upgrade for travelers who wanted more connectivity, upgraded beverages, specialty coffee, additional dining value, and other onboard conveniences.

It was not presented as the right choice for everyone. The idea was to compare the upgrade cost with the things you might otherwise pay for separately and decide which option offered the better value for your own vacation.

Original Greece 2027 Offer

What Free at Sea Plus Included

When this newsletter was originally sent, the upgrade was presented at:

$49.99 per person, per day

Unlimited high-speed Wi-Fi

Prepaid service charges

Starbucks® beverages onboard

Premium liquors, upgraded wines, and champagne

Bottled still and sparkling water

50% off additional specialty dining

The Original Value Example

Why the Upgrade Could Make Sense

The newsletter compared the upgrade price with two costs travelers might otherwise pay separately.

Service Charges $20/day Original newsletter estimate
Unlimited Wi-Fi $25/day Original newsletter estimate
Combined $45/day Before other Plus benefits
The newsletter's point:

If you were already planning to pay separately for service charges and unlimited Wi-Fi, the difference between those expenses and the original $49.99 daily Plus price was relatively small. The remaining benefits could then represent additional value.

Think About Your Vacation Style

The Best Value Is Personal

An upgrade only provides value if you actually use the benefits. Someone who rarely connects to Wi-Fi and prefers the standard beverage selections may be perfectly happy with the standard package.

Someone who plans to stay connected every day, enjoys premium beverages or specialty coffee, and wants additional dining flexibility may find the upgrade much more attractive.

Daily Wi-Fi use Specialty coffee Premium beverages Bottled water Specialty dining Convenience

The Bottom Line

Free at Sea Plus Is Not Automatically the Better Choice

The original newsletter recommended looking at how you actually plan to spend your time and money onboard.

Standard May Be Enough Keep things simple.

If you do not need daily Wi-Fi, premium drinks, specialty coffee, or added dining flexibility, the standard Free at Sea offer may meet your needs.

Plus May Add Value Use more of what is included.

If several Plus benefits are things you would otherwise purchase separately, the upgrade may provide meaningful value.
